Healing 3 - The Exposition of Tradition

tra-di-tion -  a long-established custom or belief that has been passed on.
Family traditions play an important role in family life and are typically passed down through generations. For some, traditions help to define family values and others are just for fun. For instance, our family used to gather around the piano and sing hymns at Christmas time. The pianists were two of my sisters. While they played Silent Night, one with her left hand and the other with her right, my mom and my oldest sister boasted the best alto voices in land and my dad, with his head cocked to one side and his eyes toward heaven, confidently bellowed out his tenor. The rest of us carried decent soprano tunes, while others performed melodious freestyles. But because one of us would invariably become overconfident and stray from the intended notes, the sessions would usually end with an eruption of uncontrollable laughter. Although my parents have gone to be with the Lord, this tradition worked to help shape our family's Christian values and is one my sisters and I will treasure for the rest of our lives.

What traditions have shaped your beliefs on healing? Does God use sickness as a means of punishment or to teach us something? Was healing just for those in Biblical times? Or, have we concluded in the past that it wasn't God's will to heal when someone we know died?
Mark 7:13 says the traditions of man make the Word of God of no effect. The truth is, no matter how we arrived at these beliefs or how long we have held them as truths, we must still examine them in the light of God's Word. His Word is clear and consistent. III John 2 says, "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers." Psalm 103:2-4 tells us not to forget all His benefits. What benefits? He forgives all our sins, He heals all our diseases and He redeems our lives from destruction-- good news, good news!
In Acts 10:38 the Bible says Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. So if what we see happening in our lives and all around us doesn't line up with the Word of God, then is it possible we need to know more?
The Bible is not just a collection of stories---it is the Word of the living God. When we search the scriptures, we will discover that His plan and desire for us is that we walk in health.

To Receive Jesus as Lord and Savior:
(Sinner's Prayer) Dear God, I am a sinner. I need a savior. I need Jesus. I believe Jesus died for my sins and rose on the third day. I ask Jesus now to come into my heart and to become Lord over my life. Satan has no more power over me. I say with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. Father, help me to live for you, and thank you for saving me. John 3:16.
