Healing Series 1 - What Medicine Are You Taking?

What Medicine Are You Taking?

There are a lot of sick people in the world today. As Christians, though, God has made provision for us to walk in perfect health. Many do not know this or perhaps have heard it but do not have the confidence that healing is for them. Many think God is punishing them and they deserve to be sick.
We have all made poor choices, but God does not use sickness as a means of chastisement. He loves us and does not want us to suffer. He wants to set us free, and I would like to show you evidence in the Word.
The Food and Drug Administration requires that traditional medications be dispensed with instructions on how to take them and possible side effects be disclosed. (Wow---If you really read these claims you might be tempted to sign off altogether on taking some medications--but they have helped many people and do serve a purpose.)
However, God's provision for healing, which is His medicine, carries no precautions, no disclaimers, no exclusions and no side effects! How do we know, then, that healing is for us?
First things first---Ephesians 5:17 tells us to be wise and find out and understand what the will of the Lord is. Romans 12:2 says once our minds are renewed by the Word of God, we will know His perfect will. So, the Word of God reveals the will of God.
In the Lord's Prayer, Jesus prayed that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So, what is God's will in heaven? John tells us in Revelation 21:4 that there will be no more sorrow and no more pain. So, there is no sickness in heaven!
Secondly, what was God’s intent from the beginning? His original creation was not sick. Genesis 1:31 says, "Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good." The Amplified says, "very good, suitable and pleasant." Does that sound like Adam and Eve were sick? I don't think so.
The Bible shows clear evidence that a large part of Jesus' ministry on earth was healing the sick. He was a perfect representation of the Father, and He did only what He saw His Father do (John 5:19). In John 14:9 Jesus said, "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father."
So, if we see in the Word that 1) Jesus healed, 2) He created man in perfect health from the beginning and 3) He has promised us perfect health in the world to come, then it is the will of God today, right now, that we walk in health. Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever." He does not change!
For the next few weeks, I encourage you to join me in looking into the Word to see what God has to say about healing. Together we will take a weekly dose of His medicine.
